The holidays are coming, and I'm looking to build a good nerd-rock and non-religious friendly playlist to keep my sanity amongst all of the redundant Christmas music this holiday season.
Here's the thing - I like Christmas. I'm an atheist, but I have REALLY good associations with the traditions of the holiday, and it's a very happy season for me with my family. So really negative songs don't cut it for me. Funny is great! Sentimental but non-religious is good too.
Here's what I have so far:
Chiron Beta Prime - Jonathan Coulton
White Wine In The Sun - Tim Minchin
The Night Santa Went Crazy - Weird Al
More suggestions please!

That's kind of hard. I think Dar Williams's "the Christians and the Pagans" has at least a pan-religious message. I also think some Christmas carols and ballads are more about winter or love, so they might work (It'll be lonely this christmas, Winter Wonderland, stuff like that).
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I know that song - I'll throw that on too! I like a lot of the traditional secular stuff too, but most of it is just over played.
ReplyDeleteI love Barenaked for the Holidays. Do you have it? Elf's Lament is awesome and non-secular.
ReplyDeleteI also really like "Baby its Cold Outside" by a bunch of different people, and Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer by Jack Johnson.
